Yosemite fly fishing report
Now that winter has finally arrived in the Yosemite region, we are finally getting to fish on some higher water that is making the trout more active. With a few weeks of rain and snow, we are seeing more action down on the year-a-round water of the main Tuolumne river. The small creeks and rivers are pushing more food into the big river and the trout are eating and acting like it's spring time already.

The river is up about 2 feet from our last post, and we've been doing really well on large stone fly nymphs that are red and yellow. We've also done good with hears ears and even some small stimulators on the service. Make sure to carry some copper johns as well, they've also been producing very well.

We've got one more month before the main season starts, so check back for updated fly fishing reports on most of the rivers in Yosemite.

Also, make sure to check out our fly tying videos for recommended flies to tie before heading out to fish on any of the waters in the Yosemite region this month.

Yosemite fishing report for March
We got over five feet of snow over the weekend and the Tuolumne River is slightly up from last weeks report, not to much, but there is still more water flowing into the river now. Expect possible dirty cold water as the snow melts into the river.

Big trout are hungry and they are still eating, so don't let the dirty cold water deter you from hitting the river this week. Look to get your fly down low and in the slow water where they have moved to stay out of the faster cold water.

Fly Tip: Purple Duracell Jig nymphs were working well on Sunday. Size 14 and 16

Yosemite Fishing Report for February
The "All Year Section" of the Tuolumne River that runs from the north west border of Yosemite to the junction of the Clavey River is still super low as of Tuesday 2-27-18. The water was slightly dirty due to melting snow, but the fish were still active enough to rise off the bottom to each well placed nymphs. The water temp has decreased by 4 degrees in the past two days.

Yosemite Hatches: Large Stoneflies were out in good numbers, but the trout weren't rising to the top to eat them yet.

Best Flies as of 2-27-18: Large stoneflies or Pat's rubber legs were working well. Green and black, size 8 to 12.

There is a National Weather Warning for the next two days for the Yosemite region. They are calling for 2ft to 5 ft of snow above 7,000 ft and 1ft down to the 3,500 ft level. This will change the water temp and clarity for the next week, so be prepared to adjust to these upcoming conditions.
